Saving Time With An Assistant
So you just got a personal assistant? I bet they aren’t saving any time.
Working within assistant requires an investment. They don’t just magically make all your work go away. You have to be willing to invest time in explaining how you want things done and giving them a general feel for your approach to stuff. Over time they will be able to “think for you” and do things the way he you would like without having to ask you. But it takes time to get to that point.
One key strategy to effective use of an assistant is to make a list of everything you would like them to do. Include some things on the list that are regularly scheduled items, but also include things that can be done during downtime. This is extremely useful early on because it gives them a way to be productive even if you aren’t there to tell them what to do.
Over time such a list will probably not be necessary as they learn the ins and outs and find different ways to help you. But early on he can be very useful for them have a way to be productive without interrupting you for directions.
